Creating Roadmaps to Ensure a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
This advanced “how to” training is designed to help you improve your school’s capacity to design and implement a more intellectually rigorous and engaging instructional program that leads to increased student understanding and mastery of Arizona’s academic standards. Facilitators will present the strengths and challenges associated with curriculum mapping as well as the keys for ensuring that the process of developing and using maps is a rewarding and meaningful journey for your school or district. This workshop will provide detailed steps for creating basic as well as expanded maps, teacher and anecdotal comments from schools who have successfully mapped their curriculum, and a variety of exemplary maps. This advanced training will address the following topics:
- Maps – how to move a basic map format to an expanded map format
- Performance objectives – how to prioritize, unwrap, link and cluster them
- Essential questions – how to develop and use them to promote more intellectual rigor within instruction
- Strategic assessment – how to identify (create and/or select) varied and multiple measures of student learning for the map
- Alignment – how to ensure it within the mapping process as well as in using the maps
- Accountability – how to determine if maps are making the difference in the quality of learning
