| WHAT: |
|
Established in 2001, AFRE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education organization. It is a state leader in providing high-quality, intellectually stimulating and enjoyable natural resource education to K-12 teachers, administrators and informal educators (e.g., forest and park rangers, Scout leaders and educators in nonprofit organizations, government and industry).

| PROGRAMS: |
|
During the 2008-09 academic year, AFRE will present 14 free AZventure Series events; 8 Best Practices workshops; and individually contracted, on-campus trainings in Best Practices at K-12 schools throughout Arizona. (Best Practices and custom-designed workshops are fee-based.)
- AZventure Series Events: Free thematic workshops and expeditionary learning experiences based on Arizona's natural resources and aligned with Arizona's Academic Standards
- Best Practices Series Events: Workshops designed to help teachers and administrators implement the most promising strategies for improving their schools and ultimately increasing student achievement
- Custom-Designed Workshops: In-district or on-campus team training in strategies and procedures which positively impact the performance of schools and districts

| THE TEAM: |

Since its inception, AFRE has been led by Executive Director Larry McBiles, Ph.D. His team includes full-time staff members and more than a dozen part-time master teachers in the areas of Arizona natural resources and best practices in cutting-edge, research-based instructional strategies and models that can be applied in the classroom to any subject matter.

| FUNDING: |
|
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education organization, AFRE relies upon corporate and industry sponsorships, foundation grants and individual contributions for its support. These contributions allow AFRE to provide vital environmental education and professional development training to Arizona K-12 teachers, administrators and informal educators at no, or very low, cost. |
