Mission & Vision

Mission
The Arizona Foundation for Resource Education’s (AFRE) mission to promote environmental and economic literacy as well as instructional excellence is achieved through the delivery of high-quality, professional development opportunities and services to Arizona educators.

Vision
AFRE will become a premier, nationally-recognized organization providing the highest quality professional development opportunities for Arizona educators, focusing on the importance of Arizona’s natural resources, natural resource industries, as well as effective implementation of education’s best practices.

History
AFRE was inspired by a successful education outreach program of the Arizona mining industry. Seeing the benefits of the program to teachers and students alike, leaders of the mining industry collaborated with other natural resource businesses and organizations to create a nonprofit education organization that represents all of Arizona’s natural resources: air, sun, water, land and soil, plants and animals, and rocks and minerals. AFRE was established as a 501(c)(3) education nonprofit organization in 2001.
