AFRE and Arizona Department of Education Collaboration Raises the Bar on Public Education
A unique collaboration between ADE and AFRE has resulted in the Mission: High Performance series of workshops. Without AFRE training and ADE guidelines, administrators would face the overwhelming task of individually determining how well they are addressing the requirements of the federal and state accountability initiatives, No Child Left Behind and AZ Learns.
New Chairman Assess AFRE's Progress
Since its formation in 2001, AFRE has broadened and enhanced the content of its K-12 professional development programs to include all natural resources and their industries. AFRE's long-term goal is to promote a more informed citizenry and a greater sense of stewardship.
Looking Back: Four Major Events Held Statewide in Summer 2004
During the summer of 2004, AFRE held four major events in which over 270 teachers participated. Teachers increased their professional knowledge as they researched various topics, conferred with experts and developed possible solutions to challenges.
Reaching Out: Collaborative Programs Include Geology at the Zoo
During the 2005-06 academic year, AFRE worked with several other educational organizations to provide exciting programs to teachers and students. The collaborative projects included Geology at the Zoo, Geonomics, and Arizona Rockfest.
AFRE Redefines "Adopt a School"
For 18 months AFRE will work with the faculty at Phoenix's Marc T. Atkinson Middle School to help them improve their instructional planning skills using Arizona's Academic Standards and a research-based model known as "backward design." Atkinson's students will be the ultimate winners in this unique adoption.
